The history of Louis Swift Plunkett Funeral Home (now Plunkett McFillin Funeral Home) began in 1899, when Louis H. Swift established Louis Swift Plunkett Funeral Home in North Central Philadelphia. Built on a commitment to compassionate care and personal service, the funeral home has served generations of families during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Since 1967, the funeral home has served families throughout Montgomery and Bucks Counties. That tradition continued under Jeff Plunkett, the founder’s great-grandson, who succeeded his father, Louis Swift Plunkett, as owner in 1995. Jeff’s longstanding connection to the community and dedication to the families he serves remain central to the funeral home today.

In 2026, Rich McFillin acquired Plunkett Funeral Home, beginning a new chapter as Plunkett McFillin Funeral Home. Today, Rich and Jeff work together, combining the Plunkett family’s generations of experience with Rich’s commitment to preserving and carrying that legacy forward.

Rich’s path to funeral service is rooted in family, faith, and a deep respect for tradition. Growing up in a large family in Northeast Philadelphia, he learned early the importance of compassion, responsibility, and caring for others. During his college years, he began working in a crematory, where what started as a job soon became a calling. He discovered the meaningful role funeral professionals play in helping families navigate loss with dignity and support.

Rich attended La Salle University before pursuing his Mortuary Science degree at Mercer County Community College. Throughout his career, he has viewed funeral service as a sacred trust: the responsibility to guide families with empathy, clarity, and respect. Together, Rich and Jeff bring that shared commitment to every family who walks through our doors.

We offer a full range of services, including traditional burial, cremation, and advance funeral planning.
